TELEPHONE AUTODIALER
Version 2.0
Telephone Autodialer is a simple menu operated program that stores names,
addresses, and telephone numbers, and with a Hayes compatible modem, will
dial the telephone number for you.. The program will also print the names
and addresses on 3 1/2" x 15/16 labels and most any size envelopes.
Each time the program is run you will be asked for the Drive and Path for
the program to search for your data file. This file will be made by the
program when you first enter your telephone information. The program will
name the file TA.DAT.
You will then be taken through a series of prompts, to configure the
program for your modem. This will happen even if you are not going to make
a call or even if you don't have a modem.
ENTERING DRIVE and PATH NAMES
If you are using a floppy disk to store your data, you would enter A: or
B:; depending on which drive you have your data disk in. If you have your
data in a directory on the floppy, other than the one that the credit card
program is in then enter the sub-directory name followed by a back slash.
Example: B:\AUTODIAL\. If you are using a hard drive, and your data file is
in the same directory as the credit card program, then enter only the drive
letter and a semi-colon (Example: C:). If your data is in a different
directory other then the one that the program is in, then enter the drive
and path name followed by a back slash (Example: C:\AUTODIAL\).
DISPLAY FILE:
The program has eight selections. The first selection displays the names,
addresses, and telephone numbers for each record, and displays them on
your screen or prints them to your printer. You will have the choice of any
of three parallel printers. If this is the first time that you are using
the program, then you should start with selection number three, and enter
your data. When displaying the file, the program will stop after every 10
entries, so that none of the entries will scroll off of the screen. press
ENTER to display the next group of entries, or Escape to exit back to the
menu.
CALL or DISPLAY SPECIFIC RECORD:
The second selection, allows the user to display all of the data pertaining
to a specific record. In addition to the information displayed in selection
one, the program will display the complete street address for that person.
When entering the name of the card who's information you want to view, you
may enter the name using any combination of upper and lower case letters.
The program will convert all characters to upper case. You must however,
enter the complete name as it was entered into the record. You may run
selection one to find how the name was entered.
When the program displays the correct record you are given the option of
having the phone number dialed for you. If you want to dial the number,
press Y, if not press N.
AUTODIALER:
Using the autodialer is optional. If you take advantage of the option, you
must have a Hayes compatible modem; and it must be either COM1 or COM2. You
can still have the records displayed without using the autodial feature.
When you use the autodialer you are ask to press the ENTER key to initiate
the call. You should then hear your modem dialing the number of the company
that you selected. When you hear the other phone start to ring, pickup the
handset on your phone. When you are through with the call, hang-up your
phone and press the ENTER KEY again, to bring up the next record. NOTE: DO
NOT PICKUP YOUR PHONE UNTIL YOU HEAR THE MODEM FINISH DIALING, OR THE PHONE
YOU ARE CALLING BEGINS TO RING, OR YOU HEAR A BUSY SIGNAL
CREATE/ADD DATA:
The third selection lets you add additional names, addresses, and telephone
numbers to your file or create a new file. The program is set up to receive
up to 400 entries. You'll be prompted for the name , the mailing address,
telephone number and any comments for the person or company. When you have
finished entering each entry, you'll be asked to verify the information,
before moving on to the next. Enter 'end' or 'END' at the name prompt to
exit. The file will then be written to the drive and path that you
specified. If you are adding to an existing file, the data will be appended
to the existing file. NOTE: You must make an entry in field number one. In
all the other fields, if you don't enter any data, the program will insert
a default entry for that field.
CHANGE RECORD:
The fourth selection allows the user to make changes in a current record,
without having to re-enter all of the data for that record again. First
choose selection number 1 to get a list of the names of the people and
companies that are currently in your data file. Then choose selection
number 4 and enter the name of the person or company that you want to
change. The program will search the database for that record and display
the first record that it finds that corresponds to the name that you
entered. If this is the record that you want, then press "Y" at the prompt.
If it isn't the correct record, then press "N" and the search will
continue. After you have the correct record the cursor will be positioned
at the beginning of the first data field, and the current data will be
erased from that field. If you want to change that field then enter the new
data and press ENTER. If you don't want to change that field, then just
press ENTER and the old data will be re-inserted. Continue in the same way
for the remaining fields. When you have finished with the last field, you
will be asked if the data is correct. If you enter "N" then the cursor will
return to the first field of the record, to allow you to make more changes.
If you answer "Y", then the changed record will be saved as a new record,
and you will be given the option to delete the old record. You will then be
returned to the main menu.
DELETE RECORD:
The fifth selection, allows you to delete a record that you have on file.
You will be asked to enter the name of the person or company exactly as it
was entered into the file. If you are not sure how you entered it, you
should first on your monitor. Use selection 1 for this. If the program
finds a match in your file, it will display all of the information that it
has for that record on your monitor. You are then asked if this is the
record that you want to delete. If it is, then enter 'Y' or 'y'. If not,
then enter 'N' or 'n'. If you answer yes the record will be deleted and the
program will overwrite your existing file with a new file of the same name.
ENCODE/DECODE FILE:
The sixth selection allows you to encode or decode your data file. Option
one will encode the file using an alpha-numeric password. Try and keep the
password simple and short. If you forget your password then your out of
luck. Be sure that you write the password that you use to encode the file
down, and keep it in a safe place, because you will need to re-enter this
password in order to be able to decode the file. The encoded file will have
the name TA.ENC, and after it is created, you will be asked if you want to
delete the uncoded (TA.DAT) file.
Option two will decode the TA.ENC file back to TA.DAT. When prompted to do
so enter the password that you used to encode the file. After the file is
decoded you are asked if you want to delete the encoded (TA.ENC) file.
Remember that if you have encoded the file, you must decode the file before
you can use the rest of the program.
The third option will return you to the main menu of the program.
Selection seven will print the names and addresses from your data file onto
labels or envelopes. After choosing either labels or envelopes from the
menu, each record will be displayed on the screen. If you want the address
printed, then answer 'Y' to the prompt. If not, then answer 'N', and the
next record will be displayed. When loading the labels or envelope into
your printer, place the top edge of the first label or envelope either even
or slightly above the print head. You may want to experiment with the
horizontal positioning of the labels or envelope to get the best
appearance.
The eighth selection on the main menu will allow you to exit the program.
